Sustainability at Emporiqa
Selling electronics responsibly means thinking beyond the moment of purchase. We design our packaging, logistics, supplier relationships and after-sales services to extend product lifetimes and minimise waste — and we are transparent about the work that still lies ahead.
Packaging
- Plastic-free shipping by default: corrugated cardboard boxes, paper void fill and water-activated paper tape — no bubble wrap, no air pillows
- FSC-certified materials for all paper and cardboard
- Recycled-content boxes with at least 85% post-consumer fibre
- Right-sized packaging chosen automatically per order to reduce volumetric waste
- Soy-based inks on all printed materials
Carbon-neutral shipping option
At checkout you can opt into carbon-neutral delivery for €0.50 per parcel, fully matched by Emporiqa. Contributions are pooled and invested in Gold Standard verified projects across reforestation, biogas and renewable energy. We publish an annual impact report on emporiqa.com/sustainability.
Circular trade-back program
Sell or trade in your old phone, laptop, tablet, smartwatch or pair of headphones — even if you did not buy it from us. We offer fair market value as Emporiqa store credit, ship a free prepaid recycling pouch, and route every device through one of three paths:
- Refurbish and resell via our Certified Renewed range with a 12-month warranty
- Repair and donate via NGO partners working with schools and refugee programmes across Europe
- Recycle responsibly through ISO 14001 / R2v3 certified processors
WEEE compliance
Emporiqa is registered as a producer in every EU country we ship to and complies fully with Directive 2012/19/EU on Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment. You can return any old electronic device of similar size to one you have bought from us, free of charge. Look for the crossed-out wheelie-bin symbol on product packaging — it means the product must not be disposed of with household waste.
Right to Repair (Directive (EU) 2024/1799)
From 31 July 2026, EU consumers benefit from new rules under Directive (EU) 2024/1799 strengthening the right to have goods repaired during and after the legal guarantee period. Emporiqa already aligns with these rules through our in-house repair partner network and our spare-parts commitments below. We also support the framework set by the EU Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2024/1781) for products that fall within its scope.
Repairability and longevity
- We highlight iFixit repairability scores on product pages where available
- We promote spare-parts availability for at least 5 years on most laptops and 7 years on premium smartphones
- Our in-house repair partner network handles common phone, laptop and headphone fixes across Europe with 5–10 day turnaround
- Software updates are listed transparently on product pages — including the manufacturer's commitment to security patches
Supplier code of conduct
Every brand we list signs the Emporiqa Supplier Code of Conduct, which covers responsible sourcing of conflict minerals, prohibition of forced and child labour, occupational health and safety, environmental management, anti-corruption and respect for collective bargaining. Compliance is reviewed annually and audited on a risk basis.
Energy and operations
- Three EU fulfilment centres on 100% renewable electricity contracts, backed by Guarantees of Origin (GO) certificates
- LED lighting and heat-pump heating at all owned facilities
- Last-mile delivery via electric or low-emission carriers in 18 European cities
- Cloud infrastructure hosted in EU regions powered by renewable energy
Roadmap and accountability
We publish an annual sustainability report — including Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions, packaging metrics, repair rates and trade-back volumes — and welcome scrutiny. If you spot something we could do better, write to [email protected].
