De Panasonic Lumix S5 II is de camera die uiteindelijk Phase Hybrid AF naar de Lumix S-lijn bracht, waarmee een einde kwam aan een al lang bestaande beperking van Panasonic die voorheen de overigens uitstekende S-serie tegenhield voor videowerk. De full-frame sensor van 24,2 MP en de nieuwe Venus-motor combineren fasedetectie op de chip met de historisch uitstekende algoritmen voor contrastdetectie van Panasonic, waardoor nauwkeurige eye-AF-tracking wordt geleverd voor zowel foto's als video, terwijl de body zelf een ingebouwde actieve koelventilator toevoegt voor onbeperkte 6K-opnamen.
